z2 play

Exactly one week after unveiling the latest Z-series smartphone in Canada, Motorola is now turning to one of its biggest markets and has today launched the Moto Z2 Play in India. The device is a Flipkart exclusive and will be up for pre-order, starting at 2 PM today. It has been priced at ₹27,999, which will prove to be quite competitive in its category.

As for the internal specifications, the Moto Z2 Play sports a 5.5-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display, which is packed within the sturdy aluminium body of the device. It is powered by a 2.2 GHz octa-core Snapdragon 626 processor, coupled with an Adreno 506 GPU. It has gotten rid of the glass back in favor of a complete aluminium build, which is just 5.99mm thin and still manages to pack the 3.5mm headphone jack.

While the smartphone was launched in two different variants –3GB and 32GB, 4GB and 64GB — globally, the company has decided to provide Indians with the more powerful and high-end 4 GB variant of the device. This means you will have 4 gigs of RAM along with 64 gigs of internal storage, which can be expanded up to 2TB with the use of MicroSD card.

As for the optics, the Moto Z2 Play includes a 12-megapixel rear snapper with a f/1.7 aperture, which is a slight downgrade from the previous 16-megapixel, but the performance of the newer lens is much better. The camera now also has dual auto-focus, second-gen laser autofocus, and a dual-LED flash. Sadly, the camera bump on the rear remains. The front camera is a 5-megapixel wide-angle lens, coupled with Dual CCT flash for bright selfies.

The Moto Z2 Play packs within a 3,000mAh battery, which is the only compromise Moto had to make the phone as thin as they did. It is a significant downgrade from the previous-gen Z Play device, which included a 3,510mAh battery pack. The device, however, is packing a USB-C port and TurboPower charger– capable of providing 50 percent charge in just 30 minutes. All connectivity options such as 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/g/b/n (2.4GHz and 5GHz) and Bluetooth 4.2 among other things.

In addition to the smartphone, the Lenovo-owned company has also launched its complete range of latest Moto Mods, which were first unveiled at the company’s launch event in Canada on June 1. Motorola is still supporting its modular strategy and has further enhanced the capabilities of the connector on the bottom rear-end of the Z2 Play.

The company has launched four new Moto Mods, including a JBL SoundBoost 2– for audiophiles, the Moto TurboPower Pack– for heavy users, Wireless Charging Shells– no chill with tangling wires, and the Moto GamePad– for that playful kid in you. You’ll have to shell out $39.99 per piece for the charging shells while rest of the new Moto Mods will set you back by $79.99 each.

The Moto Z2 Play comes in two different color variants — Lunar Gray and Fine Gold. The smartphone was priced at $499 for the international market, which we expected to come to India a slightly bloated price. But, the company has undercut the same and is making the device available at just ₹27,999 — that too for the high-end 4GB variant.

Also, Motorola on stage talked about several offers that will be made available to those who pre-order the device this afternoon. It has debuted ‘hello finance’ offers, where you will have to just pay ₹2,000 up front and then the remaining payment will be divided into zero-interest EMIs. You will be required to pay the amount in full in the next ten months.

The company is offering a Moto Armor pack, including protective accessories for the smartphone, as part of the pre-order process. The pre-order offers extend until June 14 and offer 50 percent discount on select Moto Mods as well. So, what are you waiting for? Get in the queue to get your hands on the device, which goes up for pre-order on Flipkart within an hour.
