Samsung’s display technology is outstanding. Due to this fact, the Korean giant’s screens have already found their way into our homes and our pockets. But, the company is still not satisfied and has now developed a new screen to appease the outgoing movie crowd. Yes, Samsung has today taken the wraps off its new 34-foot Cinema Screen during Cinemacon 2017 in Las Vegas.

This new Cinema Screen is the next step in the evolution of the company’s television sets from being a part of an exciting home theater experience to the theater itself. Samsung boasts that it aims to provide the sharp and vibrant image quality we’ve come to experience in our homes through their latest innovation — the world’s first HDR (High Dynamic Range) LED theater screen. Also, the theater screen boasts of being a 4K (4096 x 2160) resolution, designed specifically for this purpose.

As for the benefits, Samsung, in the official press release, says that their cinema screens are about ten times brighter than traditional theater screens. It offers complementary ultra-contrast and low tone grayscale settings enable the company to display both brightest color and deepest blacks at about 1:infinity contrast ratio. This screen exceeds DCI specifications but it still hasn’t bagged certification for the same.

While some theaters are using massive 72-foot wide screens to deliver an immersive experience, Samsung is providing smaller 34-foot cinema screens. The traditional cinema screen stands at about 45-inches but they rely on digital projection to showcase latest movies. Talking about the need for this theater screen, Sang Kim, Vice President of Samsung Electronics America said,

As the popularity of advanced at-home entertainment systems and streaming platforms increases, theaters must reposition themselves as a destination for an incomparable viewing experience that consumers simply cannot encounter anywhere else.

Our new Cinema Screen technology brings a more powerful and high-quality picture to the big screen, creating an environment where viewers feel as if they are part of every scene.

Further, Samsung is looking to pair their massively innovative cinema screens with an exceptional audio experience. And who’s better than your in-house audio professional, Harman. The Korean giant is tapping its recently acquired audio and in-car solutions company to build its complete evolution – Sight & Sound – of the cinema system. Harman Professional Solutions’ Cinema Group and Samsung’s Audio Lab will be providing the audio solutions. With regards to the same, Brian Divine, Vice President of Tour and Cinema Solutions Group said,

Harman is excited to continue its collaboration with the Samsung Cinema Screen team and the Samsung Audio Lab. With our expertise in cinema sound systems, we look forward to helping to extend Samsung’s leadership in Visual Display solutions into the theater.

For those willing to check out Samsung’s Cinema Screen, it will be demonstrating the same at the Cinemark Century Orleans 18 and XD Theatre, located inside The Orleans Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. This is a great opportunity for those attending CinemaCon 2017 to go and experience the probable future of theaters. There is currently no information on the pricing of the cinema screen and when it will make to our nearest cineplex.
