Uber

Uber’s UberPOOL service has gotten better. The company is introducing a brand new feature that will help users make their way to their destinations that much faster. This new feature works in a slew of innovative ways including, letting you know when it would be faster to sidle out of a jab-stuck car and simply jog to your destination.

UberPOOL riders will receive these suggestions within their apps, while they are en-route. All of these alternate drop off points will be generated algorithmically depending upon the data about your route and real-time traffic information. The process appears to be quite complicated and it actually is, since a lot of comparisons between variable conditions will be involved.

Once these alternate drop off points are generated, notifications will inform you of the time you can save by taking the suggested route instead of the regular one. If you feel like you would be better off taking the suggested route instead of the regular one, you can tap upon the pop-up and updated route information will be sent across to the driver.

Of course, since a car pool has a lot of riders inside, this new feature could lead to some friction. However, Uber is counting on the good samaritanship of riders and is hoping that the feature will be able to ease pool travel for everyone. Whether or not that happens to be the case, will be known once users actually start using the feature in earnest.
