Skype

Skype, which was once the synonym of video chatting, has been loosing its edge lately, thanks to the onset of video — well, everywhere. Video calling can now be accessed through Facebook, Hangouts and most IM apps. Which could be why Microsoft is adding some brand new differentiators to make its Skype application stand out.

The improvements are still being tested and will be made available through the company’s Skype Insider Program for both Android and iOS platforms. The new functionalities  for enhancing your experience include integrated camera, find panel, in-call reactions, and messaging reactions. The features can be availed by downloading Skype Preview from Play store or by becoming an Insider through Apple’s TestFlight.

Microsoft is very cautious about the features and is therefore testing it on a small audience before launching it for the entire Skype user base. The “new enhancements and features” will soon be out in the market, however, nothing has been provided by way of details and launch time.

The first feature, which is integrated camera, will allow you to swipe more quickly for capturing stuffs as well as adding emoticons, stickers, and annotations in the live chat. The “find” panel on the other hand, will let you share links, locations, news, videos, restaurants, movie tickets and many more things without switching the app.

Also, the beta update will allow you to share emoticons, texts and even photos as “reactions” in a live chat.

Since these features are being launched in beta, feedback is mandatory. This is what it asks:

Of course, while you’re having fun with our new features, know that this is a work in progress, so we’re hoping to get your feedback. Simply tap the heart icon on the main screen while on Skype Preview and you will be able to send your comments to our team, helping us shape the future of Skype. Making Skype better for you is what drives us so we are very excited to listen to what you think of these new additions.

These updates are sure to bring a lot more fun to your Skyping experience.
