Japanese gaming giant Nintendo has revealed the debut performance of its very ambitious game Super Mario Run, which was released in December, 2016 for Android and iOS platforms. As per the company records, the game has bagged a respectable 78 million global downloads, netting a total of $53 million for Nintendo.
Apart from the earnings records, the company also released some other data for the game â including the conversion rate. If you remember, the conversion rate was one of the most hotly debatable topics for Super Mario Run, with questions being raised about whether the $10 price would be large enough to scare potential buyers off. Well, turns out that the nostalgia surrounding Super Mario run was enough to make at least a certain portion of the populace shell out $10.
The company states that Super Mario Runâs conversion rate is over 5 percent; which may be considered quite good keeping in mind its relatively sharp $10 price point in the US â where many companies with a fraction of this price fail to obtain that many hits. At the time, the entire gaming world which is accustomed to playing many premium titles for less than $5 was shocked after hearing the price of the title.
However, The Wall Street Journal reports that the company is not satisfied with the earnings and Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima notified that Nintendo had expected more from the title, and considering the huge success of Nianticâs Pokemon Go, their anticipation was perhaps somewhat valid.
But we all know that only the number of downloads has never been Nintendoâs chief mobile strategy. The company was once struggling to set its feet in the market and finally managed the shift to mobiles, with its key strategy based upon spreading its intellectual property to new users. The venture proved successful with its âPokemon Goâ, which latter also boosted sales of âPokemon Sunâ and âPokemon Moonâ for the 3Ds.
If everything works well, Mario may well open new realms of success for Nintendo. Meanwhile, we now await the launch of the title âFire Emblem â from the game-maker.
