China’s huge strides in the smartphone market came into highlight yet again, when China-based Oppo today unveiled two of its devices the N3 and R5. Both these devices, are special in their own ways. Let’s find out.

Let’s start with the N3. The highlight of this phone (no it is not a Quad-HD display or a some 18-20 core processor) is the unique, and I must say, very innovative 16 Mega Pixel ‘Motorised’ Swivel Camera. Another uniqueness, about this already unique camera is that it can be rotated upto a whopping 206 degrees, with the click of a button, or the finger print sensor at the back of the phone (that’s another highlight).

A similar swivel camera is already available on Oppo’s fast selling N1 device. So what’s new with N3’s camera ? Sky Li, General Manager of OPPO’s overseas mobile phone business explains,

Oppo’s N3 was built and designed with our users in mind. We took what our users loved about the N1 and made it even better. The N3 is a perfect demonstration of our commitment to design and innovation.

Powered by a 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor, 2GB RAM and Adreno 330 GPU, the N3 runs company’s custom designed, Color OS 2.0 based on Android 4.4 KitKat. The phone has a 3000mAh battery and comes with 32GB storage along with a microSD card slot.

As for the connectivity options, the device features 4G LTE (including Indian 4G bands), 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS. This device is one of the very few currently available (or will be available) to feature support for Indian 4G Bands.

Apart from N3, Oppo also unveiled the R5, which has now taken over the crown for being world’s slimmest smartphone from Gionee. R5, at 4.85mm thick, has simply bashed out all others, claiming their devices to be “thinner than thinner”.

Not only is the phone slim, it packs in specifications, which would make any other flagship shy. It is powered by a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 octa core 64bit processor and 2GB RAM, the phone sports a 5.2-inch full-HD AMOLED display. The R5 comes with 16GB of internal storage.

Both these phones feature Oppo’s VOOC charging technology. Under this, the ‘company claims’, that these phones will charge upto 75%, in just 30 minutes of charging, easily leaving behind Samusng’s Galaxy Note4 claims.

The N3 is priced at $649, while the R5 is priced at $499. India price and availability have not been revealed.
