YouTube Music has been officially launched in India. The video streaming service was launched in the US and a few countries in 2017. Along with Youtube Music, Google has also launched the premium version of the video streaming behemoth in the Indian subcontinent.
YouTube Music allows users to access YouTube’s vast catalogue of music videos, cover songs and live performances. It offers location based personalized recommendations to users, when they are at work, gym, etc. It also gives users access to playlists based on mood, geographical region and artists.
YouTube Music have also introduced a smart search feature that allows users to look for songs based on the lyrics, phrases, and even vague identifiers like “heart song from Titanic.” It also lets users to switch between audio only video versions of the song and explore old tracks. A data-saver feature was also added to improve user experience.
“India is where the multi-lingual music scene thrives. It’s interesting to note how Indian artists have consistently claimed top spots over the last few months in the Global YouTube Top Artists chart,” said Lyor Cohen, Global Head of Music at YouTube. “With YouTube Music, we are hoping to bring the best in global and Indian music to millions of fans across India, and give them an immersive music experience, with the magic of music on YouTube,” he added.
With YouTube Premium, users will also get features like the ability to play videos in the background while running other apps, offline downloads, access to YouTube Originals, and YouTube Music Premium bundled in.
In India, the ad-supported version of YouTube Music will be free. However, YouTube Music Premium will cost users ₹99 per month, and YouTube Premium will cost ₹129 per month.
