Bring out those business card folks, with its Pixel 3 device Google seems to be of a mind to bring them back into the mainstream. According to a video posted by MySmartPrice, the Pixel 3 will be able to scan e-mail addresses straight off business cards through its camera. What’s more, active edge functionality and gesture controls could also be on their way back with this latest iteration along the Pixel series.
You don’t need to open any particular application to scan e-mails, your phone’s native camera will do the trick. Interestingly, Apple’s iPad 2018 offers a somewhat similar feature albeit it is more about scanning your credit/debit card details when you are trying to make a payment online.
To be honest, the functionality isn’t particularly useful. I mean I can see a few situations where I would happen to use this feature but, it could well be expanded into other directions as well – for instance, scanning a visiting card and coming up with the person’s social media profiles. Although, this is all conjecture at this point.
The device is set to launch on the 9th of October. Meanwhile, we leave you with this video to check some Pixel 3 features out on your own.
