LG Electronics has filed a lawsuit against US based smartphone maker Blu. The company filed the lawsuit in response to what it says is patent infringement on Blu’s part. This also marks the first time that LG electronics has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against a competitor over its own initiative.
LG is known for its patents. Indeed, the company has the largest number of patents in the US — for the fifth year in a row. Which is why it isn’t particularly hard for an unwitting company to infringe upon one of its patents. That said though, the company’s track record has been pretty cool and the company managed to refrain from suing anyone, until now.
The preliminary judgment is very likely to come out in the first half of next year. However, you can expect a final decision in the second half of 2018.
Blu is a very well known company in the US. Indeed, it was the 6th largest seller of smartphones in the United States. The company is known for producing devices that come with a low price and is also known to focus on other aspects of business as compared to advertising. The company focuses on areas like USA, western Europe, China, Costa Rica and Brazil where the average income is lower.
LG has filed the damages suit against Blu in the district court of Delaware. The company has also sent a request to the International Trade Commission (ITC) to halt BLU smartphone sales with an injunction. Such an injunction could hurt Blu and it will now be up to the smartphone maker to ensure that it is able to make its case in the courts.
