Tesla has a lot hanging on its upcoming Model 3. Not only is the car expected to be one of the best ( we are not talking just specs, but everything here) to have been produced by the company yet, it is also being seen as a game changer for the company. Tesla has put in a lot of preparation towards the launch of the Model 3 vehicles. The car is expected to be launched later this year and start shipping to folks who were lucky enough to place first pre-orders.

Today, CEO Elon Musk posted a video to Twitter which shows a release candidate Model 3 taking its first drive.

A release candidate product in case you are unaware of it, is the final version right prior to public launch. So it would appear that the ELon Musk led company is close to production.

It is a very short video but what we can see is very exciting. The acceleration and braking are both fast, and the ride short as it was, appear to have been totally smooth. The car is expected to be priced at $35,000 which is downright modest by Tesla and even EV standards. Particularly when you stop to consider the fact that it can supposedly offer a range well in excess of 200 KMs on a single charge.

That the Model 3 is cheaper means that the automobile could be somewhat lesser powerful than the high end Model S. Indeed, Elon Musk said almost as much on Friday when he warned that folks shouldn’t expect the Model 3 to exceed the Model S with respect to specs and power. The Model S starts at around $70,000 and goes all the way up to $130,000+. Regardless of that though, Tesla hopes to sell the Model 3 in volume and the video above appears to bode well for the same.
