Cocoon, a smart home security startup, has announced the appointment of Robin Terrell, former CCO at Tesco and MD of Amazon UK and John Lewis Direct, as its chairman.

The startup, managing to rake in $3 million in its Seed round in December 2015, is a smart home security company whose claim to fame is protecting the whole home from one device, without the need for additional sensors, using Subsound™ technology to detect subtle sounds and vibrations from activity in any room, on any floor. This device also uses a combination of acute infra-sound sensing, machine learning and geo-mapping, to put its home security measures into action.

Sanjay Parekh, CEO of Cocoon, commented,

Robin is a highly respected and successful businessman, bringing a formidable amount of expertise from leadership at brands such as Amazon and Tesco. I have no doubt that Cocoon will greatly benefit from Robin’s knowledge, experience and belief in putting customers first in all we do.

Terrell’s appointment will hopefully help Cocoon along with regards to its growth into retail and partnerships. He will also help guide the business through its first equity crowdfunding campaign, which launches today. Parekh went on to say:

He’s joining us at a key moment, as we invite our customers to join our journey and invest in Cocoon on Crowdcube. This investment will enable us to expand our retail distribution and insurance partnerships, where Robin’s strategic contributions are already proving immensely valuable.

Aviva Ventures and Breed Reply, participating in Cocoon’s Seed round, will also be present to support the startup’s crowdfunding campaign.

Robin Terrell, the new chairman of Cocoon, said,

Throughout my career I’ve seen that putting customers at the heart of your business is critical to success and that’s exactly what Cocoon do. I’m delighted to join them to help scale the business and get Cocoon on as many retailer’s shelves world wide as we can.
