Post the whole Galaxy Note 7 blowing into pieces debacle, Samsung is now looking to sign up another battery manufacturer to provide some much-needed juice to its upcoming smartphone — Galaxy S8. The company is currently in talks to join forces with LG Chem, who’ll become a part of the Korean giant’s ever growing list of suppliers, reports Reuters.

The speculations of Samsung searching for a fresh battery supplier comes on the heels of the unruly demise of its flagship phablet. Since the beginning of the explosions, the company has always been of the opinion that there is something wrong with the battery of the device. It had even recalled the very first batch of defected Galaxy Note 7s and replaced them with a new battery-powered device. But as fate has it, the new replaced smartphones also started blowing up and causing trouble among the masses.

Samsung had no choice but to completely remove the product from the market and investigate the root cause of all these explosions. Today, reports of the Korean giant completing the examination of the faulty devices has surfaced on the interwebs. It has shared the findings of the tests with outside agencies but is waiting on confirmation to disclose the same to the public.

There is currently no word on whether the issue stemmed from the battery or not. But Samsung is taking extreme precaution to get its next release exactly right to regain the people’s trust in their brand. Thus, the company is straying away from its usual battery suppliers Samsung SDI and China’s Amperex Technology.

LG Chem is the widely popular consumer electronic firm LG’s battery manufacturing arm and is widely known for supplying batteries to smartphone manufacturers including their own and Apple. It is also one of the largest electric vehicle battery suppliers and provides packs to GM, Hyundai, Kia Motors, Chevrolet, Daewoo among many others. The company has been working in this field for a number of years.

There is a 90 percent chance of a partnership deal being signed between the two. Samsung will begin procuring batteries via LG Chem from the second half of next year. Neither of the two tech behemoths are willing to comment on the deal but we’ll update you once we hear more about the specifics of this deal.
