Crytek is the coveted developer best known for games that set benchmarks and thresholds when they were released. Games like Crysis series and Timesplitters series. However, in the recent year or two, Crytek has put a lot more efforts towards free games and Virtual Reality. In accordance to KitGuru who cited an unnamed employee who works in the company’s Frankfurt office, most of the staff haven’t received their monthly wages for October or November, and July and August’s payments were received increasingly late.

What’s not a surprise here is the fact that this has led to a position where the staff are reportedly refusing to work unless all of the owed money has been paid by the end of next week. Employees in the company’s Budapest studio have already stopped all work until the issue has been resolved, the report claims.

Such events are potential bad news for the company’s titles that are still under development, and not to mention, for the staff involved. According to the unnamed source, there’s been no official cancellation of ongoing projects like ‘Hunt: Horrors of a gilded age’, but it’s extremely unlikely to see the light of day anytime soon.

What’s even more distressing for Crytek’s employees is that there was no way to predict that this would occur. Apparently, there was absolutely no hint of impending financial troubles for the company before June, so as to prepare the employees for the inevitable doom. Apart from that, many developers have reportedly abandoned the company in search of new jobs.

However, while Crytek has failed to respond to the media regarding the situation, a quick glance at the company’s current vacancies shows that Crytek is currently looking to hire 45 staff members. 21 of those actually positions are in the Frankfurt office and many of them include key developer/engineer roles. Whether or not these roles are still looking to be filled is the real question, as the company’s also speculated to be considering selling some of its studios to raise cash and cut costs.
