Instagram has been a latecomer to the Windows platform. Its Windows mobile app remained in beta for a long long time after finally getting a public release. However, that delay isn’t creeping in to the Windows 10 PC version. As a result, the UWP-ish Windows 10 mobile app for Instagram is now coming to Windows 10 PC

Starting today, you can now install the popular image sharing app right to your Windows 10 PC, Surface, or laptop. No Xbox or HoloLens, yet.

Instagram had already added support for Continuum with the latest Windows 10 Mobile update. Hence an app for Windows 10 PC seemed inevitable.

As of now — and this is gonna change with the Redstone 2 update — Continuum only supports one window size, and i.e. full. So companies had to launch updates to their apps in order to support multiple window sizes.

The Instagram app works pretty much the way to works on other platforms. You can share photos, comment on them, follow other instagrammers. The app comes with notifications as well. You can also add photos, however they need to be in your Pictures > Camera roll folder. You can upload previously taken photos or click new ones. On surface devices, you can also switch between front and rear cameras. For devices with no cameras, the app simply doesn’t show the camera icon.

Tried the app already ? How is it ? Let us know what you think of Instagram’s official Windows 10 desktop app !
