Lenovo today announced the Z2 Plus smartphone in India, with a Rs. 17,999 price tag. While the company sells the same device under the ZUK name in China, it has decided to drop the ZUK branding here and has instead opted to launch the device as the Z2.

Moving straight to the spec sheet, the Lenovo Z2 appears to be a good buy at the very first glance. The device packs a Snapdragon 820 SoC, which is basically 810 plus some hefty upgrades plus resolved heating issues. The chip’s processing capabilities are not be doubted and a 18,000 price tag is a pretty good deal at present. Indeed, the Z2 is the cheapest device in India to pack the 820 under its hood.

Instead of metal or all glass, the Z2 Plus deploys fiber glass for its frame — making the device lighter as well as more robust. Lenovo has maintained that the Z2 Plus is primarily focused towards consumers who are technology savvy and want to be ahead of the curve with their smartphone.

Screen size is 5-inches at a pixel density of 441ppi, while the display is full HD with a 2.5D curved glass design. The device will be available in two memory options – a 3GB RAM model with 32GB of storage and another, 4GB RAM model with 64GB of internal storage. The phone also features Adreno 530 GPU, which is claimed to be 40 per cent faster than its predecessor.

For camera geeks, the Lenovo Z2 packs a 13 MP primary camera with a f/2.2 aperture and uses a larger 1.34 micron image sensor for capturing more light. This enables you to take better shots even in dimly lit environments. You also get an 8 MP front camera with electronic image stabilization.

The home button on the smartphone also doubles up as a fingerprint scanner, letting you unloock your device with ease. You also get a brand new fitness tracking app called U Health, which uses Qualcomm’s sensor processing unit to track steps, distance and calories. It also has a dedicated pedometer and industry-grade accelerometer.

The device runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow under the company’s own User interface. The Z2 Plus also comes with the Google Now Launcher on-board. The device is powered by a 3500mAh battery that also features an intelligent charge cut-off feature to ensure the battery does not overcharge.

As far as availability is concerned,  Lenovo has done away with flash sale model this time around. An open sale for the Z2 Plus will commence on September 25 at 23:59:59, exclusively on Amazon India. While you will have to shell out INR 17,999 for the 3GB RAM Z2, the 4GB RAM model is pricier at INR 19,999.
