As reported yesterday, Samsung today announced its first metallic device, the Galaxy Alpha. And rest assured, Android finally has a device which could really take on Apple’s upcoming iPhone6. Take a look

This new premium device, boasts of a 4.7 inch device, similar to what Apple is about to bring to its iPhone. Apart from the display, Galaxy Alpha also has a metal frame, which is pretty similar to what Apple has been offering in its iPhones. The added advantage which Samsung might have, is the fact that it has cleverly launched the Galaxy Alpha, almost a month before iPhone’s launch.

Although the device is expected to start shipping only by early September, it will still get at least 3 weeks ahead of iPhone’s shipping, ths giving itself enough room to be sold in large numbers.

As far as specifications are concerned, the device has a 4.7-inch 720p Super AMOLED display, an octa-core processor on ARM’s big LITTLE architecture with two sets of 1.8GHz and 1.3GHz quad-core processors. It comes with 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage but no microSD card slot.

The device, as anticipated, features a 12 megapixel rear snapper and a 2 megapixel front camera. It has an Ultra Power Saving mode a fingerprint scanner, both of which were already introdiuced in the S5.

There’s no word on the pricing yet but expect it to be somewhere above ₹   30,000, largely due to the fact that it has a metal frame and almost identical configuration to that of Galaxy S5. Also, the global availability of the phone has not been confirmed by Samsung yet, but as said earlier, expect it to start shipping by early September.
