Apple has been beavering away behind the scenes over the past few months working on the new iPhone 16 range, but that has done little to stop the rumor mill from going into overdrive.

Leaks have circulated left, right, and center about the technical upgrades the latest models could receive. Indeed, the iPhone 16 phones are poised to launch later this year in September, either in the first or second week, with international shipping to be made available a week later.

More details will continue to emerge over the coming months, but remember, things can constantly change, so it’s best to keep that in mind. Anyway, there are a few things that appear to be in the pipeline that are likely to pique the interest of loyal Apple users.

Firstly, the iPhone 16 Pro models could be given a state-of-the-art camera. It has been mooted that the phones will be designed with a 48MP ultra-wide camera, which would represent a marked improvement on the 12MP ultra-wide camera that is currently available for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. With an ultra wide set-up, the iPhone 16 Pro models will capture more low light that will be a huge benefit.

Several mock-ups that have surfaced recently indicate the iPhone 16 Pro could be the first mid-sized iPhone to incorporate a periscope zoom lens feature. The iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max may decide to implement thin molded glass for their telephoto cameras. Anyway, Apple already boasts some of the best cameras for their iPhone product range, but should a super telephoto periscope camera be incorporated into the 16 models, this could be a game-changer.

Perhaps, more pertinently, there could be a new capacitive “Action Button” that could be included for the standard models in the iPhone 16 range. In a bid to make things more compatible for taking videos and photos, the camera-focussed button will be placed on the same side as the power button, albeit slightly lower down on the device’s edge.

But instead of being a mechanical button, it could end up being more user friendly. It won’t operate like a standard button that succumbs to pressure and hits an actuation point before running a function. Instead, it would be more receptive to detecting touch and providing haptic feedback to simulate the sensation of pressing a button without physically doing so.

It has also been earmarked that the new iPhone 16 models could be given a whopping 2TB of storage, which would double the capacity of the GalaxyS24 line-up — the GalaxyS24 Plus and Galaxy S244 Ultra. At the moment, the Galaxy S24 Ultra comes in three configurations, comprising 256GB, 512GB, and 1TGB. Similarly, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Max have 1TB of storage, so the suggested storage would be a serious bump up for the 16 models.

For iPhone shoppers, storage may be a bit of a sticking point, especially if they intend to shoot a lot of videos or take a lot of pictures on their device. At present, Apple uses Triple-Level Cell NAND for its flash memory, but it is supposedly considering a shift to Quad-Level Cell NAND which is deemed to be both higher density as well as less expensive. While the higher density will afford more storage, the trade-off is that it has slower read and write speeds.

However, there is a drawback with QLC NAND, which is that it is thought to be less durable and less reliable than TLC NAND. Should the transition of flash memory happen, this is something that Apple has to factor in to make the most of optimizing storage

Apple also doesn’t want to be left behind in the WiFi stakes. iPhone 16 Pro models could adopt next-generation WiFi 7 technology, which would facilitate speeds of at least 30 gigabits per second and could hit up to 40 GB/s. With faster maximum transfer speeds and lower latency, this could go some way to enhancing performance.

With new mobile gaming trends coming to the fore, the iPhone 16 range can’t make too many compromises to stay at the top. As such, they will need to have greater WiFi speeds for those who indulge in video-style games while on the move

More broadly speaking, attitudes across the world have changed significantly towards mobile gaming. A more concerted effort has been made to make mobile gambling as seamless as possible and this will benefit many, including those who like to play at Alberta online casinos. Reputable operators such as Drip Casino possess a native and robust mobile app available for iOS, and aside from being user-friendly, there is an extensive range of slots and other table games for its players to pick from.

Apple has always tried to raise the bar in terms of being innovative. With a flurry of leaks for the iPhone 16 range coming to light, it will be fascinating to see what elements are prioritized and whether it can match the expectation levels that have been set.
