Samsung, C-Lab, exynos

How would you feel if most Samsung and LG appliances (or devices) became completely compatible and interoperable with each another? Don’t think it will be a reality some day? Well, that time is almost upon us and fresh reports suggest that we will witness the compatibility of Samsung and LG devices before the end of this very year.

Talking about the same, an anonymous source aware of Samsung’s plans has doled out the details of the Korean giant’s plans. The said person states that Samsung has already bagged OCF (Open Connectivity Foundation) certification for its air conditioners and refrigerators. It is now looking to further the compatibility mission by building more interoperable products. The source continues to mention:

Apart from air conditioners and refrigerators, we plan to get certification for more diverse products including washing machines and cooking tools this year. The certified products can be launched as early as this year.

Also, for those unaware, Samsung has also gotten its latest flagship smartphone lineup — Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus — certified with the OCF. This means any other OCF-certified device or IoT device, which is compliant to OCF standards, is interoperable with the Korean giant’s flagship devices. There is presently no word on whether LG has bagged certification for its G6 flagship device, it didn’t exclusively mention or announce the same during launch.

If you’re unaware of the Open Connectivity Foundation (OCF), it has been founded by major technology giants from across several different verticals to put together standards (or rules) that prevent fragmentation. The primary aim of this organization is to make communication possible between all devices, regardless of manufacturer, operating system, chipset or physical transport and make them interoperable.

The OCF counts major technology giants such as Microsoft, Haier, General Electric, Intel, Qualcomm, Samsung and LG as some of its prominent members. The latter two have been aggressively working to make this interoperable dream a reality and all the other partners should take a cue from them. It has signed a total of roughly 300 members for this initiative, who will follow pursuit to the two Korean giants if the aforementioned becomes reality.

Wouldn’t it be awesome if we could control our Samsung air conditioner with an LG device? Comment your thoughts down below.
