The rumor mill has been churning updates about an ‘edit’ and ‘recall’ feature for sent messages being introduced on WhatsApp for the past couple of months. The feature, which is currently said to be integrated but inactive within the existing apps, is expected to finally go live for the billion-plus users of the messaging service in the coming weeks.
Yesterday, WhatsApp shipped a huge update, which brought along Snapchat-like visual filters, albums, and nifty reply shortcuts, to the messaging platform for iOS users. The app has been updated to version #2.17.30 and is now believed to be ripe for the unveiling of one of the much-awaited features– a message recall option. It will be extended across all platforms WhatsApp operates on — even the desktop web.
According to Twitter user WABetaInfo, who accurately reports on upcoming WhatsApp feature updates, the messaging platform is now closer than ever to introduce the recall feature. As already described earlier, this feature will enable users to long-press on any sent message to surface the recall option — within five minutes of sending the message.
If you’re within the grace window, you will see the recall option, which can easily be selected to delete the sent message and make it disappear from the chat window. These are all rumors and the exact working of the message recall feature is still unknown. But, we already have seen reports that texts, images, videos, GIFs, documents, quoted messages and even status replies can be recalled.
The Recall feature will be remotely enabled in 2.17.30+.

Thought WABetaInfo has acknowledged that the recall feature can be remotely enabled by WhatsApp in the current update but it is not a surety. As a disclaimer, the widely-known WhatsApp fan has stated that the feature can be activated in any of the subsequent version updates, hence the plus sign has been added to the aforementioned tweet.
… but WhatsApp has to choose if they want to enable it in that version.

The Android counterpart of the messaging app is currently stuck at version #2.17.219 and is expected to receive the aforementioned feature set in the coming days. It is not like that the recall feature will become available on any one platform, it will launch widely on all platforms because it has been under testing for quite some time now. Even Windows Mobile users will be able to save face if they mistakenly send out any embarrassing messages to the wrong individual.
The fun talk is, this feature was already released on another good app that helps you add awesome features to your WhatsApp called, GBWhatsapp months ago, go and check it out.
