A few days ago, Apple executive Bozoma Saint John made headlines when it was discovered that she was leaving the Cupertino giant. Well, she is making news again and it has been confirmed that Miss John is joining Uber. Not a lot of details are available about the topic however, what we do know is that the appointment has been confirmed.

Prior to Apple, Miss John was with Pepsi. Her role at Apple was one of Marketing and she generate quite a bit of acclaim when she led an event at last year’s WWDC event by Apple. A part of that acclaim may have been caused due to the fact that she was one of the few woman of color to have come directly before public eyes,

Meanwhile, the appointment would make sense for Uber, which has been suffering due to proposed cultural issues at the company. The issues came to the surface when Susan Fowler, an engineer at the firm, made a public post regarding sexual harassment she faced at the firm. This, and other discrepancies found at the firm led to users deleting Uber applications — remember the #deleteuber campaign that saw thousands remove the Uber applications from their smartphones.

Uber also released a diversity report recently, in which it provided details of the various employees working at the firm. The company also appointed a committee with the express aim of delving into the company culture and making recommendations for correcting the same.

What’s more, Uber has been plagued with executive departures of late. Hiring Miss John will be a welcome change. Considering that she was a marketing executive at Apple, her role could involve something that helps with refurbishing the cab aggregator’s public image. All this is conjecture at this point though, and we will have more details once Uber releases an official statement on the topic.
