Twitter might soon introduce premium features to its TweetDeck platform however, the company has said that it will not charge all users in any situation. The company said that this was because even with reduced access, the company would be able to stay true to what its users actually want.
As per CEO Anthony Noto:
As growth slowed in 2015 we had to come to grips with what Twitter was. Twitter is the best at showing what’s happening in the world.
And the company manages to do a fair bit of that by being fast, and by providing comprehensive news thanks to the huge audience base and the 14 character limit. Also, once someone responds to your tweets, you can then go out and have rich discussions with them — an ability that not all news or media platforms provide.
Charging money would of course mean that not everyone would always be available. So important stuff wouldn’t get posted about until the next day. Similarly, the choice of content would be reduced and with less people on the platform, the conversations wouldn’t quite be what they used to be.
So this is why charging for Twitter does not make sense, On the other hand, by providing extra abilities to people like journalists, Twitter would be driving conversations, as well as making some extra revenue on the side.
