Starting tomorrow, you’ll not hail just any other ordinary Uber ride but you’ll hail a ride in utmost style. The ride-hailing behemoth had today announced that it will introduce a unique integration with ephemeral messaging giant Snapchat in the rider’s mobile app.
The integration, which was announced way back in December of last year, will enable users to gain access to custom filters designed for Uber riders. These filters only appear in the scrollable menu section when you’re en route to your destination. They enable you to convey several different gestures, from right within the Uber app, that too when you’re on the go. This provides you custom filters to make your friends or family aware of your estimated arrival time through a fun, filtered selfie or other ride filters.
Commenting on the release of this quirky new integration, Apurva Dalal, Head of Engineering, Uber India said:
Besides helping riders get to their destinations, we want to focus on the trip experience itself and make sure riders enjoy the journey. Technology is helping us personalize every ride, making the experience fun and delightful.
With this integration, our riders can now Snap along the way and share their Uber moments with friends and family!
Once the update rolls out tomorrow, you’ll notice that a Snapchat card has appeared in Uber’s scrollable feed. This card will provide you three filter options to choose from — ETA filters, ride filters, and the mystery filter. On tapping a selection, the Snapchat, which you’ll need to have installed, will open and you can complete the process to share your custom Uber selfies with your friends. As one expects, the ETA filter will display the time you have left to reach the location (so leave your place on time to not be a latecomer).
This further adds to the new rider app experience, widely rolled out by the ride-hailing giant earlier last week. It centers its attention on your destination, your friend’s destination and providing you access to third-party services within the rider app itself. Snapchat is most likely the first integration being rolled to the massive rider base in the nation. We should expect other new integrations such as Gaana.com, Saavn, and others to ease access to regular services.
