At a launch event in New Delhi, Smartron, the Bengaluru-based smartphone and IoT company, has today announced the launch of its second smartphone. Called srt.phone, this device is a follow-up to last year’s t.phone and was unveiled by the company’s investor and brand ambassador Sachin Tendulkar. It will be made available exclusively on Flipkart, starting at just ₹12,999.

The design aesthetics and internal specs of this smartphone have been inspired by the former Indian cricketer — hence the name. To signify the same, Smartron will also make this device available with more memory and Sachin’s branding (signature or stance) on the rear of the device. You can also pick up Sachin Tendulkar back covers worth ₹599 to customize your devices.

The srt.phone sports a 5.5-inch Full HD IPS LCD display with screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, which is protected by a Gorilla Glass 3 coating. The protective coating over the device sounds just plain outdated as Corning has already launched Gorilla Glass 5 and most smartphone giants are now using the same. At least Smartron could’ve used the next-gen Gorilla Glass 4. The phone doesn’t have a unibody design and the back cover is removable.

The device is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 processor, coupled with fixed 4GB RAM. However, you are being provided two distinct storage options — 32GB and 64GB for this smartphone. But, Smartron is also offering unlimited cloud storage with its tronX suite of apps. It also packs inside a 3,000 mAh and comes integrated with Quick Charge 2.0 technology, coupled along with the latest USB Type-C port.

On the optics front, the srt.phone includes a 13-megapixel camera unit on the rear with phase detection autofocus (PDAF), an f/2.0 aperture and LED flash. The front camera is a 5-megapixel sensor with n f/2.2 aperture. The device runs the latest flavor of Android 7.1.1 Nougat with almost stock UI and Microsoft Office apps. It brings along the usual connectivity options as well.

As aforementioned, the srt.phone will be available exclusively on Flipkart. So, if you’re a Sachin Tendulkar fan and are looking to purchase a new smartphone, you can pick this device up for as low as ₹12,999 for the 32GB variant. You will have to shell out ₹1,000 bucks more to pick up the 64GB variant for ₹13,999. The company is currently offering an extra ₹1,500 off on exchange of older devices.

Smartron, for those unaware, was founded in 2014 and is being headed by its founder & chairman Mahesh Lingareddy. It has Research & Development centers in Bangalore and Hyderabad with plans to shift production to India in the near future. The company boasts that all of its products are being designed in India from scratch, encompassing everything from industrial design to hardware to software.
