The Finnish smartphone maker, HMD Global is responsible for bringing our beloved and iconic brand — Nokia back to the market. It is carrying forward the legacy of the Nokia brand, thus it is not only focused on winning the masses with its smartphone offering. The company is still planning to cater to the feature phone market as well.
The company, for those unaware, bestowed its most renowned feature phone with a new soul and body. It relaunched the Nokia 3310 with an updated feature set, which falls in line with today’s standards and of course, an upgraded snake game! This feature phone was debuted alongside other Nokia smartphones at the Mobile World Congress, organized in Barcelona earlier this year.
We’ve since been waiting for Nokia’s devices to be made available for purchase in the market and the date now seems to be in sight. It is because HMD Global has today announced a global competition which offers the creative pupil a “chance to design their very own limited edition Nokia 3310 packaging.” This offers budding creatives a chance to showcase their talent and become the artist behind the said packaging.
Talking about this opportunity, Pekka Rantala, Chief Marketing Officer of HMD Global, said:
We’re grateful for the incredible support we receive every day from Nokia mobile fans and wanted to do something special to thank them. Design is extremely close to our hearts and something Nokia fans love.
And not only the limited packaging, the winner of this design competition will also receive a one-of-its-kind Nokia 3310 — complete with their very own design (as shown in the image attached above).
To participate, all you’re required to do is upload your design to Instagram — the traffic’s about to surge! — with the hashtag #3310art. And like every other social media competition, you must follow @Nokiamobile to gain access to details of the competition. It would also be the space where you should be on the lookout for the winner after May 10th, which is the final day to make the submission.
The designs submitted for the Nokia 3310 will be judged by the smartphone maker HMD Global and I Love Dust, a UK based design studio. This is your chance to create and submit an artwork that’ll be gauged on everything ranging from originality and creativity to positivity. Rantala continues to talk about the competition saying,
We’e excited to see the design talent come through from the fans and hope the opportunity to be the sole designer and owner of a one of a kind Nokia 3310 will add to the excitement for Nokia mobile fans too.
As for the device itself, the clunky and battered Nokia 3310 has been reimagined with a modern and colorful twist. The biggest change you’ll notice with this feature phone is the bright new color screen as compared to the monochrome screen on the original model. It’s also bringing along a few modern upgrades such as Bluetooth, Camera, MicroSD card, app store and much more. It has an astounding 22-hour talk-time and month long battery stand-byIt will be available in four distinctive colors — red, yellow, blue and gray.
