With the advent rise in cyber threats, the previous year has already given us a glimpse at the glum state of security measures in place. It seems Micromax understands the user’s concerns and has today announced a much-needed partnership. The Indian phone maker has now partnered with Intel Security to bolster the security of its fledging smartphone lineup.

Under this strategic collaboration, all Micromax devices will now come integrated with McAfee Mobile Assistant. This application will help provide mobile users in India with the required security tools for a safer mobile experience. The said app provides features such as privacy protection to safeguard your personal data on the device and anti-theft protection to help you get back your device if it’s stolen. But, it will also protect your device from malware and virus attacks as the said security suite comes bundled with an anti-virus and web protection.

Talking about this partnership, Christopher Young, SVP and General Manager at Intel Security Group said,

With smartphones becoming an integral part of our connected lives, it is important consumers realize threats that exist in the digital world and understand how to safeguard their valued data.

Intel Security is focused on championing cybersecurity and we believe in protecting every device. Globally we have secured over 220 million users. The partnership with Micromax is another step forward in realizing our vision of being the #1 security partner of choice.

This partnership is a significant development as TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) reports that over 133 million devices in the country are currently connected to the internet. And with the increased usage of mobile wallets, social networks, new applications and other online activity, the mobile device is becoming more vulnerable to cyber attacks.

The findings of this report are supported by those penned down in McAfee Labs Threat Predictions Report. Thus, with rapid evolution in hacking technologies, there was surely an immediate need of robust protection, which McAfee Mobile Assistant will provide users owning a Micromax device.

The mobile security application will come pre-loaded in all future Micromax smartphones, starting this April. Some previous models will also receive the same through over-the-air (OTA) update. Vikas Jain, Co-Founder of Micromax Informatics, commenting on this initiative, says,

At Micromax, we realize that security of data on smartphones is critical and as one of the world’s largest cybersecurity organizations, Intel Security was an obvious choice for us to partner with; given the company’s global pedigree, strong lineage and R & D capabilities.

By integrating McAfee Mobile Assistant on Micromax devices, we are enabling our customers to enjoy a safe online experience in the digitally connected world.

Further, this reassures us that Micromax hasn’t lost focus towards the growth of its mobile business in the country. This move from the company comes at a time when it is banking and investing heavily into its fledgling consumer durables segment. It recently invested a massive Rs 600 crore into the said business and is looking to launch a new range of air conditioners, washing machines, and TVs in the coming months.
