Peter Moore, EA, Liverpool FC

Electronics Arts is one of the most prominent gaming companies around. The company,  which has given us games like NFL, Need For Speed and dozens of other similarly popular titles, has managed to stand at the top and churn our quality content because of its leadership. And it appears as if the fact is recognized by the most unlikely candidates — football clubs as well. Peter Moore, Chief Operating Officer of EA, is leaving the company to take up CEO-ship at Liverpool FC.

Moore will oversee the operations of the Premier League soccer team, and will report directly to Fenway Sports Group, which owns the team. It will also mark a move back to the roots for Moore, who was born in Liverpool and is an avid fan of the team.

Moore has been a longtime part of the gaming industry. Prior to this decade long stint at EA, he held senior roles with Microsoft, SEGA and Reebok. The news was announced by Liverpool FC in a blog post on its website.

The appointment completes a 10-month transition plan by FSG and finalises the senior management structure at the club.

Moore has been known for being one of the most committed professionals in the industry. I mean the man went as far as to display tattoos of release dates for Halo 2 and Grand Theft Auto IV on his biceps! During media presentations! What more can you ask of an employee?

Andrew Wilson pitched in as well to say good things about the outgoing COO:

Passion is essential for all of us at Electronic Arts. It’s what gets us up in the morning and drives us to do extraordinary things. And if you’ve ever met Peter Moore, you know that he quite literally wears his passion for Liverpool FC on his sleeve. So it’s with great excitement that we congratulate Peter on following his dream to become the next CEO of his beloved Liverpool Football Club.

Moore will be joining Liverpool FC in June and will continue working with EA before making the move to the UK. Let’s see if he finds managing a time in real life as difficult as managing one in FIFA.
