Google has pushed a useful little update to Android users today. Users can now find files they have stored on Google drive by making a search from within the search app. The update will allow users to look for files they have stored into their Google Drive storage, directly through the search app.
So here is how it works. You probably have a bunch of files stored upon your drive. However, it can sometimes gets tedious to find the exact file you are looking for. Now though, you can type whatever file you are looking for in the Search bar, scroll to the right and tap upon “In Apps”. This last part is important because you may not have had occasion to use this particular tab before now. However, it exist and you can find it by going all the way to the right.
The “In Apps” option is usually deployed to find stuff within your apps. However, thanks to the fact that Google has added Firebase App Indexing to the drive Android app, you can find your documents directly from within the Google search app.
The feature though small, is still kind of useful. And while the a lot of Android users don’t use drive, many do. This latest integration will allow them to find stuff more easily. Meanwhile, all you need to do is to ensure that you have the latest drive update installed. Once done, you can start searching and relevant results from your drive will start appearing along with files from other apps.
In-app is used to search for files within apps that are stored on your phone, while stuff in the drive is stored on Google clouds. The move thus also reflects upon Google’s mission of considering Android and its various other products as all part of one happy family.
