Not too long ago as you may remember, the first unboxing and initial booting video for the Nintendo Switch appeared online showing off its sleek UI design and smooth menu transitions.The user posted a picture of the console’s home screen which was, at the time, running on one of system’s controller touchscreens.
And all this happened weeks before the hybrid console is actually due to launch. Now, Nintendo has finally reached out and confirmed that some of their Nintendo Switch systems that have appeared out in the wild were actually stolen from an US distributing partner.
As the user who uploaded the video put it:
It isn’t like I grabbed it off the back of a truck or anything. I just happened to get lucky because unnamed store decided to ship early for whatever reason.
In a statement to IGN, Nintendo mentioned that the people responsible for the robbery have been fired and are currently being looked into by law enforcement agencies. Here is the full statement:
Earlier this week, individuals claimed to prematurely purchase a small number of Nintendo Switch systems from an unspecified retailer. Nintendo has determined these units were stolen in an isolated incident by employees of a U.S. distributor, with one system being illegally resold. The individuals involved have been identified, terminated from their place of employment, and are under investigation by local law enforcement authorities on criminal charges.
Nintendo Switch will launch worldwide on March 3, 2017, and we look forward to everyone being able to discover the wonders of the new system for themselves at that time.
