While Paytm may be hogging a larger userbase, FreeCharge is looking to ease the payment process to attract these users to their service. The Snapdeal-owned payments giant has partnered with ToneTag in order to introduce a new sound-based digital payments method. It has announced that their users will now be able to complete payments using sound waves.

Currently, this new feature is available only on the FreeCharge mobile app for Android smartphones. The iOS app will probably get this new addition in coming weeks. Talking about this feature addition, Govind Rajan, CEO at FreeCharge said,

FreeCharge takes immense pride in providing its consumers with the best transaction experience. Launching sound payments on our platform in partnership with ToneTag, will ensure that we remain the best.

The ease of the payment mechanism coupled with no infrastructure cost to set up the payments are the USP of the product and we hope to delight our customers with more such innovations in the future as well.

FreeCharge customers can find the new mode of payment under the ‘Pay or Send’ option. In addition to the previous modes of payment like On-The-Go-Pin and QR code scanning, users will now see the sound payment option as well.

After selecting the sound payment option, merchants will need to enter the transaction details on the platform they are using which will emit a sound signal to the customers’ app. The customers’ device will need to be kept close to the merchants’ device to be able to detect the sound. Once the app receives the signal, customers will see a Pay Now button, tapping on which will complete the payment process.

Further, merchants can also accept sound-based payments through any device using the ToneTag software development kit. This payment mode is currently acceptable at nearly sixty-two outlets of Trust Pharmacy, NICE toll plaza, and numerous other colleges, malls and office parking associated as ToneTag merchants.
