Uber is further expanding its service offerings in India with the launch of a new service named UberHIRE. This allows users to hire an Uber cabs for up to 12 hours. The service will be on the lines of a local taxi service, and similar to the service offered by its rival through Ola Rental.
Speaking about the launch, Apurva Dalal, head of engineering at Uber India, said,
Our technology makes it possible for us to create specialised solutions that can help users have access to reliable transportation at affordable prices.
UberHIRE is one such product that addresses the unique commuting needs of riders in India, especially that of tourists, business travellers, senior citizens, and working professionals by letting them book an Uber and use it for up to 12 hours.
After successfully implementing its pilot in Kochi, Uber is now planning to roll out this service in eight more cities: New Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Vizag, and Nagpur from today itself.
UberHIRE will look after customized travelling needs of riders in the city, especially for senior citizens, working professionals, and tourists. It is also said that the minimum fare for this service would be between Rs 449 and Rs 649 for two hours, and up to 30 kilometers. Post that, the rider will need to pay Rs 2 per minute and Rs 12/km, without any dynamic or surge pricing.
Launched earlier in 2016, Ola Rental has been offering similar cab rental services to its customers at reasonable rates. It offers 3 packages — 30 km/2 hours, 40 km/ 4 hours, and 80 km/ 8 hours. This service starts at as low as Rs 400 for a hatchback vehicle.
Note that the rates are subject to change according to each city. While Uber is known for its convenience regarding payment options, sadly, it is not the case with this new service. As of now, the UberHIRE service will operate only in cash for few days.
