Though the Tata Group might have been struck with a management reshuffling just recently but that isn’t slowing down the progress of their subsidiaries. Today, at an event in New Delhi, Tata Motors unveiled its new Passenger Vehicle strategy and the new innovation-focused sub-brand called TAMO. The company also plans to unveil its first TAMO production vehicle ‘Futuro’ at the Geneva Motor Show on March 2017.

The new sub-brand, which is a clever abbreviation of Tata Motors, will act as an incubation center for innovation. This exclusive vertical will work on new technologies, business models and partnerships to define the company’s future mobility strategies. TAMO is said to operate on a low volume, low investment model to fast-track the concept and proof of technology processes at the automotive company.

Further, Tata Motors will build TAMO as an open platform that’ll promote networking with global startups and leading tech companies. It will also provide them access to trendy and innovative new solutions to further the design of exciting future products in a rapidly changing automotive environment. The platform will focus on the creation of a digital ecosystem, leveraged by Tata Motors and their partners.

This game plan address six major themes — topline improvement, cost management, structural improvements, customer centricity, new mobility solutions and organizational effectiveness. Speaking on the announcement, Guenter Butschek, MD & CEO, Tata Motors in the official blog post, says,

The success of our transformation journey ‘FutuReady’ is measured by our vision and depends on our ability to deliver on our comprehensive strategies for our business units. To secure our future in a rapidly changing environment, the advanced mobility solutions space is of utmost importance.

The introduction of TAMO will help us to co-design India’s automotive footprint by taking new technologies and mobility concepts as a new ecosystem to market.

As for their first production vehicle, Futuro is being called “a stunning-looking car for the money.” The company plans to undertake limited production of the car, with an expectation to hit the market by 2018. The engine details of the vehicle haven’t been confirmed as of yet but it will be powered by a bumped up 1.2 Revotron turbocharged engine. It will be a two-seater sports coupe and come close to more than 180 hp of power. It will be lightweight, trendy, and sport a healthy power-to-weight ratio. It is expected to be priced around Rs 25 lakh.
