Following the steps of dominant telecom operators including Airtel and newly-entrant Reliance Jio Infocomm in the country, Idea is soon to transform into a digital services company.
The telecom giant plans on releasing a full package of dedicated apps for movies, TV, music as well as games. The trending concept of these telecom operated apps provides customers with all points of entertainment at a single destination. Though you might still be required to use more than one app to access the same.
Talking about the company’s transition, Himanshu Kapania, Managing Director of Idea Cellular said,
As we leapfrog from being a voice and data services provider to becoming a full service digital solutions company, we continue to deliver on our promise of ‘changing lives’ and become the catalyst in fuelling the Digital India movement.
The step is being taken due to the pressure being created due to the influence of Jio in the market. The company targets on-the-move online generation and entertainment frenzy audience. The company will initially act as an aggregator instead of building content themselves. The company has been working on the project for last three months i.e post announcement of its Q2 results.
The telecom giant is presently engaged in advanced talks with music and movie platforms for its transformation into a digital solutions company. With this, Idea aims to drive 60 percent of data traffic by 2020 tied along a strong video demand and built up leadership. The platform to-be-released will also enable third parties to launch their respective consumer-centric applications. It also plans to deliver other value-added services through the platform, apart from offering its own range of branded digital content services.
The content services have gained extensive growth in the country. It not only helps companies drive data traffic but also offers well-suited content as per the needs of customers. The fad grew further Jio’s entry in the industry as a digital content firm. Though Bharti Airtel has been in the field for quite a time now, Jio has built up the pressure on Mumbai-based Idea cellular. Jio is planning to shift focus towards providing good network experience since content alone is not exclusive and can be replicated.
