Twitter is presently one of the most influential social networking sites in the world. But lately, this social media has platform has been gathering attention because of all the wrong reasons — including several high profile senior executives leaving the company. The latest addition to the list of people departing from the company is it’s managing director for Greater China, Kathy Chen.
Ms. Chen decided to leave after just eight months of joining Twitter. She announced her decision to leave following a restructure of the business in Asia. Previously, she worked at Microsoft and created a lot of talk when she was hired by Twitter in April 2016. The appointment caused some raised eyebrows considering that her experience in social media was rather limited.
You may or may not be aware of the fact that Twitter does not even operate in China, due to a government ban. However, the company has a fully functioning office in Hong Kong so as to look into matters regarding China and focus on Chinese advertising customers and of course, to work with developers there. Also, a number of Chinese folks use Twitter illegally as well. Although of course, Twitter does not support that.
The offices also allow the company to reach out to its global audience and expands it’s horizon. According to Chen, the company has grown its advertiser base in Greater China by nearly 400 percent over the past two years.
However, after a recent restructuring, Chinese ad sales and support activities have been transferred to Twitter’s Asia Pacific headquarters in Singapore. Chen mentioned in her tweet that as the transfer has been done, it is the right time for her to leave.
Meanwhile, Chen’s exit is just one amongst many high-profile departures. Other recent exits include its Chief Technology Officer Adam Messinger, Vice President of Product Josh McFarland, and Chief Operating Officer Adam Bain.
