According to a Reuters report, with an increasing concern amongst Android app developers’ community w.r.t the app economy reaching a saturation point, Google’s parent company Alphabet has decided to address it by upgrading the Google Play store.
Google has come up with various improvements for its Play store which wouldn’t only help app developers but also promise to be of interest to the users. For one, Artificial intelligence could be used to increase support for various payment platforms, support technology like virtual reality, wearable devices and Google’s Chromebook laptops.
The Play store has also made extensive use of machine learning, which is a branch of artificial intelligence, in order to improve app recommendations for users.
Offering its payment methods in 47 markets, Google now supports direct carrier billing, which is a popular payment method where consumers do not have credit cards.
Sameer Samat , the Vice President of product management for Android and Google Play said, “What won’t change is that games will remain the chief focus of Google Play.Nintendo Co Ltd is building a version of its popular Super Mario Run game for Android”
“What we are excited about is giving developers that single entry point for more and more of the computing ecosystem,” He added
This upgraded version of Google Play store is somewhat similar to its direct competitor Apple, which updated its App Store earlier this year.
According to James Knight, former Google employee and founder of a consultancy that helps developers convert Apple-compatible iOS apps to the Android operating, “Google has eased the once-complicated process of developing apps for the Play store”
“The App Store has historically been a little more straightforward, and Android has been a bit more like the Wild West,” he said.
It will be interesting to note that according to market researcher Statista, Google Play offers more than 2.4 million apps.
