After leaving a mark on the Indian market with its budget smartphone offerings, Xiaomi is gearing up to unveil the very first product from the Mi Ecosystem in the country. The Chinese electronics giant has already sent out media invites for an event scheduled on September 21st.

The long wait for the smart home appliances that Xiaomi debuted in its home country, China, will soon come to an end for the populous of our country. The company hasn’t, per se, confirmed the product that’ll be unveiled at the event, but the multitude of tweets, all, point towards only one product — Mi Air Purifier 2.

With China leading the population graph with over 1.4 billion people, the air of the country is full of pollutants and isn’t completely safe for breathing. To solve this problem, Xiaomi had debuted its first-ever air purifier in China towards the end of 2014. It then slimmed down and improved the air quality for the next iteration, launched in November 2015.

The Mi Air Purifier 2 can be regarded as a compact but powerful big brother to the first generation purifier. The compant design, however, doesn’t effect the Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) which peaks at about 406 m3/h. It features triple-layer filter protection which blocks out 99.3% of the PM2.5 particulate matter in addition to 100% dust, pollen and other large dust particles.

The Mi Air Purifier 2 has been designed to host a single motor with dual mixed booster fans, which ensure that it is more quieter and power effiecient than its predecessor. And since its a smart home device, you will be able to control it remotely via your smartphone. The purifier connects to Wi-Fi, and can help you keep track of the air quality in your home via the Mi Smart Home App.

With most Indian cities currently facing the wrath of bad air quality, and govt. using odd-even techniques to curb the same, an air purifier would be the perfect product to start with. This could be the perfect home appliance to ensure a pollution free and safe breathing environment in our homes.

There is currently no word on the street about the pricing, just the chatter about the smart appliance finally coming to India. The Mi Air Purifier 2 was launched in China at a retail price of RMB 699(or about Rs. 7,000). So, stay tuned for a detailed overview of the Air Purifier on the launch day.
