This is interesting. In the midst of those numerous chat and IM apps floating around in your smartphones, you might soon welcome a new one — specially ladies — named “VoiceFriends”. The app, which bagged an undisclosed seed round today, though is similar to your regular voice IMs, still has an altogether different concept behind it.
And just to explain how different that concept is, Gurjeet Dhingra, who founded this app last year, tells me,
Voicefriends is always free for women, Yes that’s true and that’s the business model where men will pay for membership.
Yuup ! Its a cruel world for us men ! Built around the fact that men will pay for membership where they get to voice chat with women, VoiceFriends offers a unique, voice-to-voice chat that lets you start with genuine interaction right off the bat.
It’s meant to offer conventional friendship in an unconventional way,” says Gurjit Dhingra, one of the founding members, “The goal is to make millions of men and women use Voicefriends to make instant connections. We make it safe, easy and fun for women to chat for free with interesting men in their area! You never know if your call could lead to an in-person meeting at a restaurant, going to a movie, a romantic date or maybe even a long-term relationship.
adds Dhingra
Voicefriend’s membership plans, though pretty uncomplicated and simple, might still find it difficult to get into the minds of Indian men, even if the app is offering a virtually ‘no-boundaries voice calling’ with women. Why you ask ? Because they are expensive. The minimum Rs.500 plan for example, gives you just 60 minutes of talktime.
So if you do have both time and money in excess (both commodities are hard to find bare minimum these days though), give Voicefriends a spin.
