Micromax, under its YU sub-division, has now announced a new portable photo printer named YUPIX. This small form factor printer which can print high quality photos in just 60 seconds will be available to you at Rs 6,999 starting today at Amazon.in.

The wireless on-the-go printer will enable you to print pictures at a resolution of 1280x1920p at 2.5Mpx. It supports up to 16.7 million colours and the pictures printed will have a pixel density of about 291dpi.

In addition to having great specs and a good pricetag, the new hardware is very beautiful to look at too. It is available in white and blue, initially, and has a very compact form factor. It measures about 2.99 x 6.01 x 0.94 inches and weighs just under 273 grams (battery inclusive). It is powered by a 750 mAh battery so you don’t need to worry about running out of juice too easily.

The YUPIX uses Dye Sublimation technology and a cartridge that does not require a cleaning roll, which is commendable. The company also says that the printer can print 10 continuous copies which can be attributed to the cartridge which has Ink Ribbon and Photo Paper integrated into it apart from being water and finger print proof.

Being wireless, the printer uses either Wi-Fi, NFC or Wi-Fi Direct technology at close ranges. Bluetooth support is not preferred because of its slower speed. The YUPIX, Micromax says, scores 175 in the image quality test, which is a decent score for a printer in this price range.

The printer is compatible with both Android and iOS and can be connected to your smartphone via an app that has been dumped into the respective app stores recently. The app, apart from allowing users to connect and control the printer, will enable them to edit the pictures before they actually hit the ‘Print’ button.

Micromazx, via its subsidiary YU, has been trying to enter into a more diverse product range, while keeping its main brand, Micromax — focused on smartphones. YU has already ventured into smartphone and other related smart home products, with YUPix being the latest addition to that list.
