Xiaomi has launched a new product in its portfolio of devices – the Xiaomi Yi Action Camera. While it is similar to the more popular GoPro, it is also there to act as a competitior to the same, and at a pricing of $64 (399 CNY), it sure as hell does that.

The Yi Action Camera includes a 16 MP Sony Exmor R BSI CMOS image sensor. It can record videos at 1080p with 60 frames per second. The device has a 64 GB internal storage and weights just 72g. It can go up to 40 meters under water.

In comparison, GoPro Hero fails almost on every front in specifications. It has a 5 MP sensor, 32 GB storage and weights 111g. However, the only thing which Xiaomi probably failed to put in the Yi Camera package is the casing.

If you want a selfie stick with mount for the Yi Action Camera, you can go for the ‘”travel edition” of the device which costs $80. The Xiaomi Yi Camera can be controlled remotely via smartphone app.

It is currently only available in China through Mi.com Store and the company’s typical flash sale model. There is no information whether the device will be available globally later or just in China.
