Indian origin instant messaging app, HIke, has today raised ₹400 crore in a funding round, led by Tiger Global. Bharti SoftBank also invested a small amount from this $65 million.
Launched in 2012 by Sunil Mittal’s son Kavin Bharti Mittal, the Hike app competes with the likes of WhatsApp, LINE, Viber, WeChat, Messenger and Gtalk.
Hike had previously raised $7 million and $14 million in two rounds of funding, which were led by Bharti SoftBank. Hike has been on the rise from the past two months registering 15 million of its users in that same period. Hike has a registered user base of 35 million users, which is the largest for any such app based in India.
We had written about Hike in an opinion article earlier. 90% of Hike users are from India. Hike’s special feature has been the ability of Hike users to communicate with non-Hike users via SMS.
