UPDATE: Battlefield servers are now back online. Go enjoy the open beta right now.
As you all know, the official Battlefield One open beta rolled out a couple of days ago to go on a fairly smooth first day. And in case you’ve been living under a rock, here’s everything you need to know about the Battlefield 1 open beta. However, ever since a much wider pool of players was allowed in, issues came barging in with them.
EA’s servers took on an overwhelming amount of pressure and eventually completely gave in. Many users reported not being able to join matches and being presented with a screen that says “Failed to connect to EA online”. For starters, a mass participation such as this cannot be considered as unanticipated due to the already clear mass following of the game. And considering the fact that the open beta is only multiplayer based, this is a major issue for EA.
I’m currently facing this issue myself on the Xbox One. The Battlefield forum has been bombarded with complains left, right and center in lengthy threads. Responding to a tweet about all of this, the official Battlefield account said, “We’ve had some other reports of that. It’s being investigated.”. If you’re out there, just know that you’re not alone in this.
Though it is worth mentioning that it’s not just Battlefield 1 that has been glitching out. Several games under EA are experiencing similar problems. the EA Support Twitter account said in a message,
EA is currently experiencing an outage. EA games, services, and support may be impacted. We’re working to resolve as fast as possible.
So hold on tight, the servers will be back up in close to no time.
Such server failures during an open beta tend to raise doubts regarding the future prospects of a game. Even though, as rumored, this may have been the work of a certain group of hackers(which seems to be the fallback response for every such server failure now), it still concerns prospective players about the security of their information and value of their investments. These issues need to be tackled swiftly to save an impending launch disaster
Thus far, no termination date has been announced by EA regarding the open beta, so play for as long as you can, level up as much as you can, these trenches are yours for the next few days.
