Music streaming service Spotify has opened up its podcasts section for everyone. The company has decided to open its podcasts section in beta, and has invited folks who are currently hosting their content elsewhere, to come on-board.
Podcasts are in vogue at the moment. Although not as popular as videos, a section of the populace is leveraging these to reach their fans. The audio medium is particularly favored by creatives and entrepreneurs to get their message across, and Spotify is looking to cash in on to this trend.
A post by the company elaborated on the topic:
We want more people to have access to the tools they need to become great storytellers and have their voices heard, which is why we’re proud to introduce the beta of Spotify for Podcasters. Through this new platform that we’re testing, podcast creators who are hosting their podcasts elsewhere will be able to make their show available to Spotify users by providing us with their podcast feed. This will easily make them available to our audience of more than 180 million listeners around the world, and allow podcasters to see daily stats about who is listening and from where.
So basically, folks who have a podcast of their own and host it somewhere, will be able to make the same available on the Spotify platform as well.
Assuming that the content is good, adding it to the media streaming platform will prove to be a win-win situation for both the audio streaming platform, as well as the publishers. How? Well, Spotify will have some unique, in-house content to offer to it’s audience. On the other hand, these publishers will be able to leverage the company’s 180 million strong or so audience.
Spotify has automated a fair percentage of the hustle involved in releasing podcasts on its platform. Podcasters can run active podcasts and continue to publish episodes on their original host, with all new episodes instantly added to Spotify. The company also said that folks using its platform to publish their podcasts will receive access to episode performance, daily stats on listener demographics, location, engagement etc.
