Swifties, here’s some super exciting news for you guys! Taylor Swift has today announced that her entire catalog of albums is finally making its way to every major music streaming platform — you name it. She is even fixing her broken relationship, a very common theme in her songwriting, with Spotify after almost three years.
To celebrate the achievement of her last album– 1989 selling more than 10 million copies worldwide, her full back catalog has been uploaded to everything ranging from Amazon Amazon Prime Music and Tidal to Spotify, Pandora Premium and Google Play Music. The renowned songwriter and singer made her albums available exclusively on Apple Music — Cupertino’s streaming service — after signing a deal with them back in 2015.

The said development was confirmed by Taylor Swift’s management team on Twitter whereas industry sources say that the catalog would be available on both free, as well as premium tiers, of Spotify (via Recode). She moved away from the widely popular music streaming service in 2014, deciding to remove her previous album– 1989, 2012’s Red and breakout hit Fearless from Spotify.
She defended her decision for the departure complaining that Spotify wasn’t compensating artists fairly for their art. Back in 2014, streaming services were just starting to gain traction and wasn’t recognized as a prominent source among the industry. Back then, Taylor Swift felt that the same was just another grand experiment and didn’t require her attention.
I think there should be an inherent value placed on art. [For] Beats Music and Rhapsody, you have to pay for a premium package in order to access my albums. And that places a perception of value on what I’ve created.
But, Swift is now embracing the change, especially when plays on streaming platforms have started holding an importance in the music charts. Spotify, as well as Soundcloud, have enabled artists like Frank Ocean show off their artistic creations and build an audience in the process. There is presently no information about what changed between Spotify and Taylor Swift but the fans are surely excited to get her catalog back on the streaming service.

Maybe the 50 million+ subscriber mark that the streaming service was recently achieved is the reason for Swift’s return to the platform. Apple Music presently has 27 million subscribers and is now replacing the free three-month trial service with a minimal plan.
