Those of you who have had occasion to watch John Travolta’s iconic Face-Off, know that face-swapping can be a painful process. However, thanks to the advent of technology, all you need to face swap yourself on a different body is a smartphone application. And Microsoft’s in-house app-studio has a new app for you too.
The app is already live in US, Australia and Canada and folks can look out for it on the Android platform in the coming months. What’s more, an iOS version of the currently android-only app is in the works as well.
So what this system basically does, is that it allows you to take a picture of yourself from close quarters — so that your face is clearly visible, ad then use a variety of words to perform searches to find the rest of your torso. Next up, use lighting and other effects to ensure that the overall is one that is consistent and post the picture onto social media.
The swap ap could also be used to try hairstyles, frames or even clothes. We can see it growing into a Alex competitor. right here however, that time is well into the future. Meanwhile, the app has been created using 3D face modelling technologies from a computer vision team over at Microsoft. The app could fuzz out like many things out o the garage, or it could also grow into something substantial. Let’s see.
