Samsung’s Galaxy S8 was expected to be the South Korean company’s saviour. After all that happened with the Note 7, the company needed one solid device to wash away past sins and reinstate its image as a reliable smartphone manufacturer. The Galaxy S8 is apparently holding the company’s expectations up.

While Samsung is not sharing any numbers yet, what we do have from the company — is that the Gaaxy S8 devices are doing roaring sales. In the US alone, Samsung says that S8 and S8+ sales have exceeded those of S7 and S7 Edge by over 30 percent.

Speaking with the TechCrunch, Samsung’s North American COO Tim Baxter said:

At Samsung, we believe it is a privilege to make groundbreaking products that are enjoyed by millions, and have recommitted ourselves to innovate, not only with new products and services, but also in process. The Galaxy S8 and S8+ are a result of that recommitment and the market has responded – with a more than 30 percent year-over-year growth in pre-orders versus the record pre-orders we had with Galaxy S7, making it our best ever.

In a way, this was expected. All of Samsung’s efforts over the past few months have been focussed towards ensuring that its next was expected by the public, and that it sheds the the stigma of the company that makes exploding devices. Once its S8 does well, Samsung woul finally be able to let of off the ghosts that haunt it.
