Google’s hardware efforts aren’t exactly going as planned. One device or the other, be it the Pixel smartphone or the WiFi routers, is being faced with difficulties due to an update in the recent past. And today, Google WiFi devices seem to be experiencing issues with their usual functioning — known due to different light modes.
As pointed out by Android Police, the users who’re facing issues with their Google WiFi will notice that the circular ring of light on the device will be stuck at blue. A solid blue color is what the device will continually display, but you already know there is an issue as your internet connection will be absent.
Another method of confirming that your Google WiFi devices are acting up is to witness the functioning of both the primary hub and the satellite hubs — if you’re using them to create a mesh network, their primary use. The primary hub will most likely be stuck with a solid blue hue whereas the satellite hubs will start to display an orange hue, which means these points have no internet connection. It has also been suggested on the support page that solid blue color means Google WiFi point is factory resetting itself.
As reports have it, the issue, which is limited to a handful of users, is possibly being caused due to the latest build #9202.35.8. No one is aware of the precise nature of the issue but a rather large number of individuals are reporting the same on Google’s product forums.
The technology giant is already aware of the problem with Google WiFi devices and is currently working to develop a fix. Speaking on the same, the WiFi care team said,
Our team is still looking into this and working hard on getting a fix out — we aim to have it out as soon as possible.
Further, the company has also emailed several users with an update on the situation stating,
Thank you for your patience while we looked into this. We have been investigating the issue thoroughly since we last spoke. The good news is that the team has been able to reproduce and has found the root cause of the issue. Currently, we are investigating the best fix for the issue.
Our plans moving forward is to create and test a fix for this issue, and then make the fix available to our customers This issue is one of our top priorities!
While the company is working on a fix, a Google engineer has suggested the following methods to temporarily eliminate the issue:
- Attempt to setup GWifi from scratch using a different owner account. This can mean creating a new Google account or using a family member’s Google account to setup the Google Wifi devices through the GW app.
- Disconnect wireless Windows 10 devices or Xbox devices (or connect them via ethernet instead). There have been a few cases in which disconnecting any Windows 10 devices or Xbox devices has brought the Google WiFi network back up again without crashes.
Google WiFi was one of the several products unveiled at the company’s hardware event last year. It is totally different from other WiFi routers as it divides a single wireless access point into multiple points — for even, seamless coverage across your home. All the Google Wi-Fi devices are connected through mesh technology, thus, you can add any number of devices without affecting your WiFi speeds.
