When you talk about electric cars, Tesla is probably the first name that jumps to the tongue. However, Lucid is qietly making a name for itself in the background as a solid competitor to Tesla. The company turned up the heat today when it tested its Lucid Air car, and put it through its paces.

The car was undergoing high speed testing at Ohio’s 7.5-mile TRC test track. The intent here was to check how the car performs under high-speed use. The company didn’t really scrimp on speed and the car went all the way up to its software-limited speed of 217 miles per hour. The Lucid Air will cost $52,500, once federal tax credits are applied and as such, buyers are probably going to expect a vehicle that is much more than a simple pollution free ride.

Tesla cars are a tad more expensive than Lucid’s premium, Air flagship car. However, cost is not likely to be a over riding concern for the niche that will be buying EVs, which are likely to be quite a bit more expensive than normal gasoline cars. I mean sure, cost will be a factor, just not the most overriding one.
