Apple is getting busy with some re-branding The company has recently dropped the iTunes name from its Podcast application. The move although small, is being looked at as an important part of the company’s efforts to bring podcasts back into the center. This also serves to separate the service from the old iTunes services and brings it within the ranks of new age services like Apple Music.
So basically, the podcast directory and the client Podcasts app available on iPhone and iPad are now contained within Apple Podcasts. While the re-branding isn’t exactly something to make a big deal out of, the fact remains that Apple had hinted that it was going to re-haul the podcast service in February. The re-branding and the name change to Apple Podcasts, could well be a step along the same direction.
Meanwhile, details are pretty scant as to what direction this renovation will take. However, there has been speculations that the company may well launch a subscription service along the lines of Apple Music’s $9.99 tier for its podcasts as well.
It’s official: iTunes Podcasts is now @ApplePodcasts.

The idea is certainly intriguing and could well see the company generate a new cash cow. We could also see Apple launch a dedicated iOS app for podcasts as well, which would be pretty great considering that the iTunes app is getting a bit overwhelmed with all the extras that are tucked into it.
