While the reports were suggesting a complete no show from users, Reliance Jio Infocomm has today announced that over 72 million of its existing customers have already signed up for Jio Prime services in the last one month. That’s about 60 percent of the total ~120 million users (20 million added last month) who’ve bought Jio SIM cards in the last six months.
Due to such bombastic response, the telecom giant has now decided to give the remaining users breathing room and has extended the deadline for Prime registration process until April 15. This means you now have fifteen days more to either purchase the Rs 99 Prime subscription or the first Rs. 303 and above recharge plans. Talking about the same, the official press statement says,
Considering the unprecedented demand for enrolling to JIO PRIME and doing the first recharge, Jio has extended the deadline for purchasing Jio’s Rs 303 (and other) plans till 15th April.
In addition, Reliance Jio Chairman Mukesh Ambani addressed its millions of customers and thanked them for the continued support over the past six odd months. He further added that the free data and voice offer was finally coming to an end and the company wants to provide its customers a last chance to board the ship. Thus, the deadline to pick up Prime subscription and other recharges has been extended. He said,
Over the past few days, we have been deluged by millions of customers queuing up to purchase Jio’s popular Rs. 303 and other tariff plans. This nationwide trend indicates that very many customers are still in the process of purchasing Jio Prime and their first paid tariff plan.
Further, he continued to add that customers who don’t sign up for the Prime membership or recharge their Jio numbers by the newly allocated deadline will face a hindrance in their experience. They will either be plagued with a degradation in service (not to forget the less benefits in recharge plans) or the complete discontinuation of services. And while this is the case for non-subscribers, the Prime subscribers are being showered with even more surprises and offers.
The Jio Prime subscribers should get further pumped as the newest telecom entrant is not done battering its competitors just yet. The company has today announced a completely new offer which is being called ‘Jio Summer Surprise.’ This new offer is pretty similar to the company’s previous free data and voice offers such as the New Year one.
This one will provide you free voice and data services for another three months – yay! yay! yay! – if you’ve subscribed to Jio Prime and recharged your number with Rs 303 or higher (both are necessary). Yes, this is the catch to gain access to the complimentary services for another three months. And this means that your paid recharge plan will be applicable starting July, which may finally mark the end of free complimentary services for Prime users. But, Mukesh Ambani has stated this is only one of the attractive offers, among the many more which are lined up. Talking about this new offer, he added,
In India, we have the fine tradition of shagun – offering gifts on auspicious occasions. For us, your first recharge is an auspicious moment. Therefore, we want to offer a token of our appreciation – the Jio Summer Surprise.
Mukesh Ambani further continued to expand on the company’s efforts, saying they’ve created the world’s largest greenfield 4G LTE wireless broadband network in partnership with Nokia. He admitted that the company’s network has small pockets of congestion on its network but that will be eliminated with the planned expansion. Jio has already set up 100,000 mobile towers across the country and recently invested Rs. 30,000 crores to further add another 100,000 towers to their network in the coming months. It is gearing up to become the largest 4G LTE telecom carrier in the nation, ahead of both Vodafone (merged with Idea to form biggest entity) and Airtel.
