Nokia’s MWC conference was a huge hit with the launch of three Android devices — Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and a global version of the Nokia 6 smartphone. It also saw HMD Global, the Finnish giant who now owns rights to the Nokia brand, revive the iconic Nokia 3310 back from the dead as well. Although these unveilings were enough for their comeback, it did disappoint customers anticipating a ‘flagship device’ launch.
But, HMD Global isn’t wasting any time to grab the market opportunity and make Nokia return back to its coveted status. Reportedly called as ‘Nokia 8’, the company’s flagship phone was spotted on a Chinese online retailer’s website, ahead of its official launch. This device is now said to enter the market by June this year equipped with the latest Snapdragon 835 SoC.
As per the fresh leaks, the phone will be released in two variants offering differentiation in terms of memory options — 4GB and 6GB of RAM. Both the devices will be packed with Snapdragon 835 SoC, which has already been plundered by Samsung for its Galaxy S8 release. Apart from variation in memory; the two variants will showcase distinctive screen sizes. The phone is expected to feature a metal unibody design sporting slim and sleek aesthetics.
While prior rumors suggested that the handset will sport a 5.7-inch QHD Super AMOLED screen, the display for the variant is still be unveiled. Moreover, one of the versions of Nokia 8 will be equipped with dual camera setup similar to that on the Apple iPhone 7. The phone is likely to feature a 24-megapixel rear camera with OIS alongside a 12-megapixel front camera — but not necessarily from Carl Zeiss.
The smartphones will be running on the latest Android 7.0 Nougat operating system and will be available in two colors — Black and Grey. The smaller of the two versions is suspected to be priced at $580 (Rs. 38,699) while the large one might cost you around $650 (Rs. 43,000). With Samsung Galaxy S8’s launch scheduled for April, the timeline for HMD Global’s flagship device seems to be perfect — if we’re talking in terms of SD 835 chips.
To compete with the high-end phones present in the market, the Nokia 8 will come equipped with a fingerprint scanner along with dual front-facing speakers. The smartphone is expected to have two storage variants- 64GB and 128GB, both of them expandable up to 256GB via microSD card.
