We all remember the good old days when we used to charge our phones once and enjoy all day. Well, those times are certainly making a return as the rumors have been proven true. Today, at its Mobile World Congress launch event in Barcelona, HMD Global has taken center stage to unveil a modern take on their iconic feature phone — Nokia 3310.

This means HMD Global is not only gunning for a chunk of the Android market but also wants to employ Nokia’s brand image to coax more users into buying their mobile devices. And it might just work in their favor after the unveiling of a remodeled version of 2000’s indestructible Nokia 3310 handset. And by an initial look, the design aesthetics of the device pretty similar to the original model.

But, how does Nokia’s new feature phone from the dead look on the specs sheet? Well, the biggest change you’ll notice with this Nokia 3310 is the bright new color screen as compared to the monochrome screen on the original model. It now also includes a few modern upgrades, such as Bluetooth, Camera, MicroSD card and 3.5mm headphone jack. But, the device still lacks a  cohort of them including WiFi, GPS or an app store. It, however, still bring along a revamped version of Snake as well.

But, the biggest upgrade would have to be the new battery pack, which the company boasts will provide the Nokia 3310 with a 22-hour talk-time and month long stand-by. HMD Global further adds that the talk-time is about 10 times better than the original model, while the standby time is about three times better. The said battery can also provide 51 hours of MP3 and 39 hours of FM playback. And, you would be happy to know that the battery is still removable — just like the original variant.

Talking about the rebirth of Nokia 3310, Juho Sarvikas, CPO of HMD Global said,

For the Nokia 3310 we just couldn’t resist. We wanted to reward loyal Nokia phone fans and make a statement that rich heritage, innovation and modern design can go hand-in-hand. Fundamentally, it is about making sure that right across our portfolio we are delivering this pure Nokia experience.

The new Nokia 3310 handset will roll out globally in Q2 2017 for a bargain price of €49 (approx Rs 3,500). And much like the last time, you get an assortment of ‘glossy’ color variants to choose from. You will have the option to choose from red and yellow, which have an overall glossy finish or dark blue and grey with a matte finish.

If you ask me, the new Nokia 3310 is something that people have been insistently asking for, so it may cause some initial attraction for the Finnish hardware giant. The masses will go crazy over the return of the nostalgia-packed phone, but comparisons to original Nokia 3310 will soon be drawn. And the said craze will eventually die down, only adding to the Nostalgia-stricken stuff we’ve been receiving for the last year.
